The EEAIA also represents the interests of member companies in all industry negotiations with the industry’s trade unions, not only on wages and other conditions of employment but also on the industry’s benefit funds which provide benefits to employees such as pensions, permanent disability and sick pay benefits.

Members of the Association meet at least once a year at the Annual General Meeting and more often should the need arise.The Executive Committee of the Association is elected at the Annual General Meeting and is responsible for the management of the affairs of the EEAIA between Annual General Meetings.

Members of the Executive Committee meet once every two months and among issues addressed regularly are:

  • Membership and finances
  • Labour matters including MEIBC issues and Industrial Relations matters
  • Proposed amendments to, and existing labour legislation and its impact on employment practices
  • Commercial, economic and political matters impacting on business
  • Industry wage negotiations with the Trade unions
  • Feedback on SABS activities from the EEAIA Technical Expert
  • Skills, training and keeping a watching brief on the activities of the Metal and Engineering and Related Services Seta (Merseta)

Membership of the EEAIA is open to companies who are involved in the manufacture, assembly, wiring, supply, repair and maintenance and installation and erection of electrical equipment such as:

  • Convertors.

  • Electric lifts and escalators.
  • Electrical lighting equipment
  • Furnace equipment.
